Job summary

MainePERS is seeking a Retirement Services Specialist to ensure accurate and timely administration of retirement benefits while keeping the Retirement Services unit running efficiently.

The ideal candidate balances technical expertise, attention to detail, collaboration, and initiative, serving as a resource for Pension Associates and clerks and coordinating daily workloads to meet payroll deadlines.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree plus five (5) years of progressively responsible work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite.
• Proficient in Excel at the Beginner level.
• Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience is preferred.
• Experience with interviewing, data gathering, and analytical skills to determine complex eligibility and respond to customer service requests.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced retirement benefit work consistent with Pension Associate III duties.
• Provide day-to-day direction and support to Pension Associates and clerks, assigning work and serving as a subject matter expert.
• Run and analyze reports and queries to monitor work and ensure timely retirement benefit payments and payroll deadlines.
• Authorize release of payments through the retirement benefits payroll and adjust overpayments/underpayments as needed.
• Research and respond to complex member inquiries from MainePERS management.
• Apply retirement laws, rules, policies, and procedures to research issues and provide accurate information.
