MainePERS in Augusta, ME, is seeking a Pension Associate I to help members understand retirement benefits and navigate the retirement process. This entry-level role offers opportunities to build knowledge, develop technical skills, and contribute to Maine's public employees' financial futures.

The role emphasizes helping people, working with numbers, researching information, and solving problems, with training provided and increasing independence as skills grow.

Qualifications

• Excellent customer service, research and analysis, computational skills, and ability to work under limited supervision.
• Proficient with numbers and accurate calculations.
• Must be able to follow established procedures and policies.

Responsibilities

• Help members understand their retirement benefits and the retirement process, via in-person or remote meetings.
• Research and apply laws, rules, policies, practices, and user guides to calculate refunds, estimates, and benefits.
• Review accounts for accuracy, identify errors, and make corrections.
• Determine membership and retirement eligibility based on requirements.
• Calculate member contributions, interest, and creditable service.
• Support colleagues with benefit calculations and other retirement services work.
• Provide coverage for clerk-level responsibilities as needed.
• Adapt to changes in processes, technology, and legislation.
