Job summary

Maine Public Employees Retirement System (MainePERS) seeks a Retirement Services Specialist to support accurate and timely retirement benefit administration and keep the Retirement Services unit operating efficiently.

The role requires solving complex problems, working with data, supporting colleagues, and maintaining a collaborative team environment while meeting operational and payroll deadlines.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary degree and 5 years of progressively responsible work experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Excel at the Beginner level.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced retirement benefit work, including Pension Associate III functions.
• Provide day-to-day direction to Pension Associates and clerks; assign work and act as SME.
• Run and analyze reports and queries to monitor work and ensure deadlines are met.
• Authorize release of payments through retirement benefits payroll and approve adjustments for over/underpayments.
• Research and respond to complex member inquiries and requests for information from MainePERS management.
• Apply retirement laws and procedures to research issues and resolve problems.
• Collaborate with Retirement Services leadership to ensure workflow moves efficiently.
• Identify issues affecting timely/accurate processing and take initiative to resolve them.
• Share technical knowledge and guide colleagues to ensure consistent quality work.
• Learn new processes, systems, and legislative changes; adapt as needed.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture and meet standards for quality and timeliness.
