Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a seasoned engineer to serve as Responsible Engineer for the TeraWave solar array deployment mechanism. You will own its design, analysis, and qualification, lead the complete design cycle from concept to qualification, and guide a team of engineers across mechanical, thermal, and electronic interfaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in design and qualification of mechanical hardware.
• Hands-on prototyping and testing experience.
• Strong design, integration, and mechanism analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the entire design cycle for the deployer, including trade studies, conceptual and detailed design, structural analysis, development testing, and qualification.
• Define deployment architecture and validation strategy, using analysis, prototyping, and environmental testing to prove performance in space environment.
• Hands-on prototyping to rapidly push design forward in fast-moving R&D cycles.
• Perform analysis for kinematic, motor/spring/gear sizing, tolerance stacks, and structural performance.
• Mentor and guide other engineers on deployment mechanism sub-components and interface integration.
• Coordinate with subsystem owners to resolve interface conflicts and drive producibility.
