Job summary

Commonwealth Senior Living is seeking a Resident Care Specialist to lead and coordinate resident care across multiple communities. The role involves frequent travel, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mentoring the care team through training, scheduling, and performance management.

The ideal candidate holds a Virginia RN or LPN license, CPR/First Aid certification, and has substantial experience in director-level resident care roles.

Qualifications

• Must hold an unencumbered Virginia RN or LPN license.
• Compact license with multi-state privileges preferred, not required.
• CPR and First Aid certification required.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a Director/Assisted Living leadership role.
• Minimum 1 year in nurse management with hiring and coaching responsibilities.
• Ability to train Virginia Direct Care and Medication Aide training (or obtain).
• Virginia UAI Certification (or ability to obtain).
• ISP Train the Trainer per Virginia requirements (or ability to obtain).
• Experience with resident assessment and care planning.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
• Demonstrated leadership to inspire and motivate teams.
• Willingness to travel extensively including overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Model a philosophy that treats residents and families as customers.
• Ensure compliance with Federal and State resident care policies.
• Serve as care manager and resource for residents and families.
• Assess staffing levels to meet resident needs within budget.
• Assist with retention strategy for residents per licensing requirements.
• Cover vacancies in leadership roles when needed.
• Support orientation for new Resident Care Directors and staff.
• Complete resident assessments biannually or with condition changes.
• Assist during state surveys and plan corrections.
• Identify and resolve regulatory compliance risks.
• Review systems (falls, infections, admissions, etc.) and implement improvements.
• Schedule oversight to ensure adequate staffing per standards and budgets.
• Communicate with community leadership and stakeholders.
• Recruit and evaluate care associates aligned with core values.
• Engage with residents, families, providers, and regulators.
• Provide education and competency training for resident care staff.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with continuing education requirements.
• Collaborate with staff to tailor policies to needs.
• Document observations and follow up with executives as needed.
• Delegate responsibly while maintaining accountability.
• Attend meetings and training for Commonwealth Senior Living.
• Maintain communication with Senior VP of Resident Care.
• Maintain safe work environment and incident prevention.
• Position requires travel and overnight stays across multiple states.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
