Job Description

SUMMARY :

Reporting to the Crew Supervisor or other Supervisor associatedwith a specific Facilities Maintenance & Engineering TradeShop, the Senior Repairer performs a variety of routine basicmaintenance and repair tasks involved with carpentry, painting,plumbing, steam fitting, electrical and mechanical; and providesfirst rate customer service to the University Community.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • As a team leader or working independently, work in the paintingof wood, metal, brick and cement walls, floors, and ceilings of theinterior and exterior of buildings; the staining, varnishing andrefinishing of cabinets, desks, chairs and other furnishings andequipment; and the painting and repainting of pipes, radiators, tinroofs, and other types of iron work.

  • As a team leader or working independently, work in the repairand maintenance of walls, ceilings, interior and exteriorbrickwork, tile floors, drains, cement and concrete floors,sidewalks, steps, foundations, and other types of masonry,plastering and stone work.

  • As a team leader or working independently, work in the repairand maintenance of water, drainage, waste and gas lines; toiletbowls, wash basins, and urinals; and radiators, refrigerators,laundry machines and other types of plumbing and steamfittingfixtures, fittings, appliances and machinery.

  • As a team leader or working independently, work in the repairand maintenance of buildings, office furniture, screens, stormsashes, frames, windows, ceilings, partitions, and other types ofcarpentry work.

  • As a team leader or working independently, work in theinstallation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of cables,wiring, motor, generators, pumps, refrigerators, radios, soundequipment, telephone line switchboard, oil burners, and other typeof electrical equipment, appliance fixtures, machinery, andcircuits.

  • As a team leader or working independently, work in the repairand maintenance of copper leaders, gutters and slate roofs,including the operations of flashing, papering, cutting andpunching prior to the installation of slate; pots, steamers, cans,pails, and other kitchen and dairy equipment; and ventilators, airduct, and weatherproofing equipment.

  • As a team leader or working independently, work in the cleaningand repair of boilers, the repairing of locks, and the repair andmaintenance of automobiles, trucks, snow plow, and sandspreaders.

  • Perform welding and/or brazing operations to repair furnitureor equipment.

  • Assign work and supervise performance of unskilled andsemi-skilled maintenance, repair and laboring work of ahelper.

  • Perform duties on all buildings on campus and all exteriorfeatures on campus.

  • Use work orders and fill in all pertinent information.

  • Follow all safety procedures including wearing uniform andappropriate protective personal equipment.

  • Ensure that all staff and customers are treated with respectand courtesy.

  • All customers to be greeted, questioned as to their needs,advised of any necessary information and thanked for their businessin a pleasant manner. Staff is to be treated similarly.

  • Utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording andcomputerized management information systems used by the FacilitiesMaintenance & Engineering.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at anytime.

QUALIFICATIONS :

REQUIRED :
  • Two (2) years of experience in work involving the inspection,repair and general maintenance of household, office and otherequipment, fixtures, fittings, appliances, machinery, furnishings,and buildings.

  • Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license validin New Jersey only if the operation of the vehicle rather thanemployee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties ofthe position.

  • Knowledge of standard tools, materials and methods.

  • Ability to work with diverse populations and in a team.

  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.

  • Ability to read, speak and understand English sufficiently toperform duties of this position.

  • Availability to work all shifts, including weekends andholidays.

PREFERRED :
  • Ability to analyze/trouble shoot problems.

  • High School Diploma or GED certificate.

*NOTE: This is a Civil Service position. As required by theState of New Jersey, in order to be certified to the position andattain permanent status in title, candidates are subject to anexamination process and successful completion of a 4-Month WorkingTest Period.

This position is designated as essential. The designation ofessential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be presentdue to inclement weather situations. This position requires oncampus work and is not a position that allows remotework.

SALARY RANGE: O14: $46,295.93 -$67,001.13 *NOTE:Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New JerseyCivil Service Commission’s formula. Salaries for externalcandidates are determined up to step four, $52,507.49.
