Job summary

Fanatics Betting & Gaming is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Distributed Systems team. You will design and build event-driven infrastructure powering real-money trading at scale, balancing hands-on coding with architectural influence.

You will work with Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, Kafka, and cloud-native tech on AWS, mentoring others and guiding system reliability, observability, and deployment patterns across the platform.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with distributed systems and high-concurrency production environments.
• Expert-level proficiency in Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot, with REST, gRPC, and Protobuf.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with Kafka and data pipelines, including exactly-once processing guarantees.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale distributed systems using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot, architecting for traffic spikes and concurrency.
• Own the development and optimization of high-throughput event pipelines using Kafka, including partition strategy and exactly-once processing guarantees.
• Build and tune low-latency data layers across Postgres, Redis, and Redis PubSub, ensuring data integrity and sub-millisecond reads under peak load.
• Implement resilience patterns across services — backpressure handling, circuit breaking, idempotent retry logic, and graceful degradation.
• Contribute to real-time user-facing systems, solving fan-out for tens of thousands of concurrent sessions.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, guiding architectural decisions and RFCs.
