Job summary

Fanatics Betting & Gaming seeks a Staff Engineer for its Distributed Systems team to own event-driven infrastructure powering markets at scale. You’ll design, build, and operate high-throughput pipelines with Kafka, Java or Kotlin, and Spring Boot, while collaborating with leaders to align technical decisions.

You’ll own performance, latency, and reliability in a live trading environment, writing design docs and guiding architecture as the system evolves in a fast-growing betting and gaming

Qualifications

• 7+ years building scalable, fault‑tolerant distributed systems in production.
• Expert-level proficiency in Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot, with REST, gRPC, Protobuf.
• Deep hands-on experience with Kafka and delivery guarantees under load.
• Event-driven architecture expertise and async messaging strategies.
• End-to-end domain ownership: design, build, operate, and improve systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale distributed systems for live real-money trading.
• Own high-throughput event pipelines using Kafka and stream processing.
• Build low-latency data paths and ensure data integrity and cache coherence.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership on cross-domain decisions.
• Diagnose production issues and optimize performance under peak load.
• Raise engineering standards with architecture reviews and scalable patterns.
