Job summary

Bloomberg is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for BQL Reliability Engineering in New York. You will design, build, and maintain platform capabilities that make reliability a built-in property of the BQL services, while improving observability and practitioner tooling.

You will work with distributed systems, contribute to MTTD/MTTR improvements, and partner with engineering teams to define SLIs/SLOs throughout the SDLC. Strong OO language experience and Linux/UNIX expertise are required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software or reliability engineering experience.
• Experience with OO languages (C/C++, Python, Java).
• Strong knowledge of Linux/UNIX and distributed systems in production.
• Experience with deployment, release management, testing in distributed systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using production data and telemetry.
• BA/BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain software and self-service capabilities to improve BQL reliability at scale.
• Develop tools and diagnostic capabilities to analyze telemetry and system behavior for rapid fault identification.
• Improve incident detection/diagnosis to reduce MTTD and MTTR for high-severity events.
• Engineer observability by turning metrics, logs, traces into actionable insights across Bloomber g BQL architecture.
• Collaborate with BQL teams on system design, SLIs/SLOs to ensure reliability is built into services.
