Job summary

Bloomberg L.P. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the BQL Reliability Engineering team in New York.

You will build platform capabilities to improve reliability, resilience, and transparency of BQL and its services, working at scale with automation to make reliability intrinsic to the platform. You’ll design and maintain self-service capabilities, develop diagnostic tools, and improve incident detection and MTTR/MTTD metrics.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in software or reliability/platform engineering.
• Experience with object-oriented languages (C/C++, Python, Java, etc.).
• Strong Linux/UNIX knowledge and experience with distributed production systems.
• Proven performance, availability, resilience, or scalability improvements.
• Experience with production software delivery including deployment, release management, testing, and safe changes.
• Strong analytical skills using production data and telemetry.
• BA/BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain software and self-service capabilities to understand, operate, and improve BQL reliability at scale.
• Develop tools and diagnostic capabilities to analyze telemetry and system behavior for rapid issue identification.
• Improve incident detection/diagnosis to reduce MTTD and MTTR for high-severity incidents.
• Engineer observability capabilities turning metrics/logs/traces into actionable insights across distributed architecture.
• Collaborate with BQL teams on SLIs/SLOs and ensure reliability is built into SDLC.
