Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to lead and perform protective relay testing, calibration, and commissioning for medium- and high‑voltage substations. You will guide crews, review protection schemes, and ensure safe, reliable operation across utility sites.

The role requires 5+ years in protective relaying, experience with 5kV–500kV systems, and knowledge of microprocessor relays. Travel is regional with field mentorship and strong emphasis on safety and documentation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience in protective relaying for utility substations.
• Experience testing medium- to high-voltage protection systems (5kV–500kV).
• Strong knowledge of microprocessor-based relays and protection schemes.

Responsibilities

• Lead job briefings and safety tailboards, reinforcing a Safety First culture.
• Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning on MV/HV systems.
• Test and validate transmission and distribution protection schemes (distance, differential, OC, BKR failure).
• Verify control and protection circuits for transformers and breakers.
• Lead and mentor onsite technicians and coordinate with project managers and utility customers.
• Create accurate test reports and field documentation; participate in job walks and estimating.
