Job summary

Asplundh Electrical Testing seeks a Senior Relay Technician to ensure the safe, reliable operation of medium‑ and high‑voltage substations. You will lead protective relay testing, commissioning, and maintenance with a focus on transmission and distribution protection schemes.

You will mentor field crews, support outage work, and maintain detailed field documentation. NETA credentials are preferred; willingness to travel regionally is required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years in protective relaying for utility substations.
  • Experience testing medium‑ to high‑voltage protection systems (5kV–500kV).
  • Strong knowledge of modern relay test platforms and microprocessor relays.

Responsibilities

  • Lead safety briefings and enforce a "Safety First, Always" culture.
  • Perform protective relay testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Test and validate transmission and distribution protection schemes.
  • Verify control circuits for transformers, breakers, feeders, and banks.
  • Support outage planning, energization, and restoration activities.
  • Create accurate test reports and field documentation.
  • Mentor onsite technicians and coordinate with project managers.
