Job summary

Patriot Rail is seeking a hands-on Regional Trainmaster to lead train crews and oversee safe, efficient movement of railcars in a dynamic yard environment. You will apply leadership, operations expertise, and real-time decision making to keep operations running smoothly while upholding safety standards.

You'll supervise daily activities, coordinate switching, manage documentation and reporting, and mentor crew members while ensuring compliance with federal regulations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in train operations or trainmen functions.
• Current Locomotive Engineer and Conductor certifications.
• Strong knowledge of federal railroad regulations.
• Ability to lead teams and communicate under pressure.
• Analytical mindset with problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to train, coach, and develop employees.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of train crews.
• Direct switching operations for loading, unloading, and assembly.
• Communicate movement instructions via radio/phone/signals.
• Ensure proper use of track switches and coupling procedures.
• Lead safety investigations and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Download and interpret locomotive event recorder data.
• Train and mentor crew members on safety and procedures.
• Complete and review daily/weekly operational reports.
• Monitor operational metrics affecting cost and performance.
• Travel approximately 40-50%.
