Job summary

The City of Durham’s Durham Parks and Recreation department seeks a part-time recreation program leader. You will supervise diverse age groups, promote safety, and guide indoor and outdoor activities for participants of all abilities, while modeling respect for city property and rules.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, at least 18 years of age, six months of experience with mature adults (55+), and a valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TSAC).
  • Six months of experience in programming with Mature Adults (ages 55+).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • A valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED – with Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises diverse age groups in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Takes responsibility for health, well-being, and safety of participants.
  • Provides assistance with personal care, mobility, and communication needs.
  • Maintains order, distributes equipment, and encourages respect for property.
  • Observes rules, models sportmanship, and communicates with supervisor on issues.
