Job summary

The State of Maryland seeks an experienced Senior Real Property Appraiser to appraise commercial and industrial real property for fair market value used in real property tax calculations. You will coordinate appeals, manage reassessments, and ensure timely, accurate valuations in a regulated environment.

Ideal candidates have eight years of appraisal experience, four in tax assessment valuation, plus completion of IAAO Course 101/102/300 or equivalent; strong leadership, analytical, and

Qualifications

  • Eight years of experience in appraising real property to estimate value.
  • Four years of appraisal experience for tax assessment valuation.
  • Completion of IAAO 101, 102 and 300 or equivalent courses.
  • Substitution of a bachelor’s degree for four years of appraisal experience is allowed.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, monitor, and conduct residential appeals; evaluate and approve first-level appeal recommendations.
  • Oversee residential reassessment assignments; review logs and samples; ensure uniform valuation and deadlines.
  • Review and update database edits and neighborhood indices; complete forms and assess transfers for proper coding.
  • Provide training to residential assessors on the valuation system and assist inquiries about valuations and credit programs.
  • Coordinate new construction inspection cycles for timely permit processing; supervise change in use permits and valuation.
  • Oversee processing of residential plats and out-of-cycle account changes and ensure timely valuation.
