Job summary

State of Maryland is seeking a qualified professional to appraise commercial and industrial real property for real property tax purposes. The role trains in inspection, data capture, and valuation using AAVS and related tools, across Maryland jurisdictions.

You will learn to prepare valuation records, assist with appeal hearings, and respond to inquiries from the public while adhering to the Maryland Assessment Procedures Manual.

Qualifications

• Seven years of appraisal experience estimating the value of real property in accordance with USPAP and completion of IAAO Courses 101, 102 and 300 or equivalent courses approved by the Department of Assessments and Taxation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in inspecting commercial and industrial properties and record technical details to update property records.
• Perform AAVS data updates, uploads, and file maintenance for commercial properties across jurisdictions.
• Assist in updating and editing assessment records using AAVS and other valuation tools following Maryland procedures.
• Apply standard appraisal methods to value land and improvements based on market, cost, and income data.
• Prepare and handle appeal hearings to defend the department's value estimates at supervisor and tax court levels.
