Job summary

TYLin is seeking an accomplished Senior Structural Engineer to join the Rail + Transit Structural Engineering team in New York City. You will deliver high‑quality structural design for complex transit programs and mentor developing engineers while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

You will lead structural tasks, perform seismic and dynamic analyses, and coordinate with Project Managers to ensure timely, constructible solutions for clients like MTA and Amtrak.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Demonstrated structural engineering design experience focusing on rail, transit, transportation, or industrial facilities.
• Experience delivering structural designs for major transit agencies such as MTA C&D, Amtrak, LIRR, Metro-North or similar is advantageous but not essential.
• Strong command of steel and concrete structural systems with familiarity of AREMA, AASHTO, IBC, NYC requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior-level structural design and technical input for rail + transit facilities (stations, maintenance facilities, service buildings, coachyards, right-of-way structures).
• Serve as a trusted technical resource on project teams and support design decisions.
• Produce and review calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports to TYLin standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers and give constructive feedback.
• Lead structural tasks independently and coordinate with Project Managers.
• Perform structural analysis and design using steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry systems, including seismic and dynamic loading.
• Support field investigations, condition assessments, and feasibility studies for transit infrastructure.
• Collaborate with architecture, civil, mechanical, electrical, and systems teams to integrate structural solutions.
• Participate in client coordination meetings and manage stakeholder expectations.
