Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. seeks an Assistant General Manager for the San Joaquin Valley Railroad Co. in Exeter, CA. You will oversee all railroad operations, drive efficiency, strengthen customer relationships, and support the business’s financial success with a focus on safety and compliance.

You will supervise crews, manage schedules and payroll within budget, hire and develop teams, and work with HR on hiring. You will engage with customers, carriers, and regulators to ensure service commitments.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in railroad industry with supervisory duties.
• 7+ years in railroad industry preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively with senior management, employees, customers, railroads, and regulators.
• Thorough knowledge of FRA regulations and railroad operations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Support the General Manager in managing safety performance, operating practices, and financial productivity.
• Lead supervision of crews, schedules, personnel, and payroll within budget.
• Build and develop high-performing teams through hiring, coaching, training, and development.
• Partner with HR on hiring and employee relations in line with policies.
• Coach and train managers and staff in operating practices per regulations and policies.
• Assist with annual business planning and performance analysis to stay on plan.
• Maintain strong customer relationships and ensure service commitments are met.
• Represent the railroad in industry trade associations and community relations.
• Investigate accidents/incidents and prepare reports.
