Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a Senior Radioisotope Processing Technician to support radioisotope processing in the 4501 Operations Group within MIIPS of IPMD at ORNL. The role involves working with hazardous materials using hot cells and gloveboxes to produce medical, research, and industrial radioisotopes.

The position emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with scientists and engineers to advance production capabilities for isotopes such as Ba-133, C-14, Ho-166m,

Qualifications

• AS degree in physical or engineering sciences with 7 years of relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience with safe handling of highly radioactive samples.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with peers, technical and non-technical staff.
• Self-motivated, able to work well in a team and committed to safe work practices.
• Experience in wet chemistry operations and nuclear detection methods, including gamma ray spectroscopy.
• Experience with glovebox and remote hot cell operations.
• Experience in disciplined operations, QA documentation, and GLP.
• Experience in isotope production activities and chemical purification techniques.

Responsibilities

• Participate in isotope production activities in a radiological facility in a team environment.
• Work with nuclear materials in hot cells, gloveboxes, and radiological fume hoods.
• Assist technicians with operations in chemical and radiochemical laboratories.
• Engage with scientists and engineers to solve complex problems.
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, health, and quality programs.
• Coordinate radioactive and hazardous waste disposal.
