Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a Senior Radiation Effects Engineer to own Radiation Hardness Assurance for LEO and beyond, analyzing environments, planning tests, and guiding hardware and software teams. You will drive tests, assess risks, and contribute to roadmaps.

You will present design reviews to customers and leadership, mentor team members, and help grow the radiation effects group while collaborating with Business Development on bids and proposals.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an accredited university.
• Minimum of 5 years of space product experience.
• Direct experience performing the listed responsibilities.
• Direct experience working with automotive and high-volume commercial grade parts in radiation environments.
• Good understanding of radiation physics relevant to electronic components.
• Excellent written and spoken communication ability.

Responsibilities

• Own key aspects of the Radiation Hardness Assurance plan for LEO orbits and beyond.
• Simulate radiation environments for various orbits using tools like OMERE.
• Plan and conduct radiation tests on components and CesiumAstro products (proton, heavy ion, total dose).
• Predict upset rates by combining environmental simulations with test data.
• Advise hardware engineers on part selection and software/firmware on radiation-tolerant practices.
• Participate in design reviews for hardware, software, and firmware to ensure reliability.
