Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. is seeking a Rack Power Engineer in San Francisco to design, qualify, and support power systems for AI supercomputers. You will own rack power solutions—from shelves to PMCs—and lead debugging and fleet remediation with engineering teams.

You will collaborate with firmware, software, and data center teams to meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements while driving improvements in hardware and qualification coverage.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in power electronics or power delivery for high-power racks or data centers.
• Experience with rack power components: shelves, rectifiers, PSUs, PMCs, busbars, connectors.
• Familiarity with safety, EMC, reliability qualification; ability to work across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own rack power architecture and requirements for high-power AI systems, including power budgets and DC distribution.
• Drive design and supplier development of power shelves, rectifiers, PSUs, PMCs, and protection circuits.
• Define and execute qualification plans (load transients, hot-swap, redundancy, thermal limits).
• Collaborate with firmware and software to define PMC functionality, telemetry, alarms, and fault handling.
• Characterize rack power under AI workloads and translate demand into design margins and energy storage needs.
• Lead lab and fleet debugging across hardware, firmware, and system interfaces; drive root-cause investigations.
