Job summary

OpenAI's Hardware group seeks a 3P Architect to define rack- and cluster-level reference designs for AI workloads in San Francisco and Seattle. You will translate workload requirements into concrete architectures and coordinate with external partners to ensure aligned roadmaps and successful deployments.

This role requires strong system intuition, cross-functional leadership, and experience with performance modeling and hardware vendors.

Qualifications

• Experience designing rack- and cluster-level AI infrastructure.
• Ability to translate workload requirements into concrete architectures.
• Proven track record with hardware vendors (ODM/JDM, silicon, networking).

Responsibilities

• Define rack- and cluster-level reference architectures for AI infra.
• Translate workload requirements into system design specs and partner deliverables.
• Collaborate with performance modeling teams to evaluate tradeoffs.
• Align internal and external stakeholders on performance, cost, power, reliability, and scalability.
• Drive vendor capabilities and roadmaps to meet infra needs.
• Lead PoC efforts to validate new architectures and technologies.
