The role emphasizes observability, reliability, and collaboration across teams, with a few in-office days and up to 10% domestic travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience on complex systems.
• Strong Python proficiency and ability to debug across the stack.
• Experience owning the full SDLC for production software and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience writing clear API docs and internal knowledge base articles.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and support R&D software used by IonQ scientists for quantum research.
• Own the SDLC for R&D codebases, triage bugs, address regressions, improve code health.
• Improve observability: logging, metrics, tracing, alerting across the stack.
• Design and manage backend/frontend for R&D data acquisition.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for rapid, reliable deployments.
• Support automated calibration and bring-up of lab equipment.
• Review scientist-contributed code and provide constructive feedback.
• Coordinate with other IonQ software teams for alignment and integration.
