Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Senior Scientist in Quantum Applications to join a cross‑functional team. You will develop end‑to‑end quantum applications for trapped‑ion quantum computers, collaborate with customers, and support a landmark collaboration with the University of Chicago.

You will translate advances in quantum computing into real‑world scientific and commercial impact, benchmarking and publishing results while contributing to an innovative, high‑impact program.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional experience or equivalent education/experience
• Expertise in Python and/or C++, with experience using Qiskit or similar quantum SDKs
• Hands-on experience developing or optimizing quantum algorithms in computational chemistry, optimization, or machine learning
• Track record of innovative quantum solutions evidenced by publications, talks, open-source work, licenses, or patents
• Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences and collaborate across teams
• Experience in customer-facing or partner-facing technical engagements

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and optimize novel quantum algorithms, applications, and end-to-end workflows
• Collaborate with customers and partners to solve real-world problems on IonQ hardware
• Benchmark performance and publish results in peer-reviewed venues
• Support initiatives delivering new scientific discoveries and innovation
