Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA seeks an experienced R&D S&E Mechanical Engineer to support mechanical design activities on the W80-5 system. You will present at design reviews, collaborate across the systems engineering team, and drive development and testing.

The role requires a DOE Q security clearance, onsite work, and willingness to travel up to 25%. A bachelor's degree plus 5 years' experience is required, with preference for advanced degree and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five years of directly relevant experience, or equivalent
• Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent DOD Top Secret level clearance.

Responsibilities

• Present at technical design reviews and programmatic meetings.
• Work across the System Engineering team to develop key elements of the W80-5 system level design.
• Collaborate with the broader systems engineering team to refine and verify requirements.
• Represent the system mechanical design in planning and execution of development and characterization tests.
• Employ analytical thinking to work through ambiguous problems with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Conduct trade studies and own key decisions based upon performance data, cost, and schedule constraints.
• Partner with production agencies for the realization of mechanical products.
• Develop and maintain close relationships with key individuals across the W80-5, NNSA, partner Design Agency Labs, and DOE Production Agencies.
