Job summary

Afton Chemical Corporation, part of the NewMarket family, seeks an R&D scientist to conduct research, development and performance testing for the SBU. You may work under supervision or independently on large projects.

Responsibilities include formulation, synthesis and testing, data interpretation, and presenting findings to cross-functional teams while maintaining accurate lab notebooks and strict safety and quality practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related science field.
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in a research and development environment.
• Knowledge of chemistry and engineering principles applied to R&D projects.
• Preferred: advanced degree in Chemistry, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Performs formulation, synthesis, and testing activities to meet project objectives.
• Evaluates data and provides technical recommendations to senior team members.
• Presents findings and interacts with cross-functional teams.
• Maintains accurate lab notebooks and ensures data integrity.
• Promotes safe laboratory practices and quality system compliance.
• Maintains documentation for ISO/Quality System activities.
• Represents Afton at technical conferences and industry events.
