Job summary

Vylor is seeking a Senior Research Associate- Protein Biochemistry to join the Protein Engineering Group. The role focuses on design, construction, expression, screening, and characterization of engineered proteins for biotech and seed product development.

The successful candidate will combine hands-on lab skills with computational fluency, use Benchling, AI tools, and maintain rigorous data stewardship in high-throughput workflows while collaborating across functions to advance protein

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in biochemistry, protein engineering, molecular biology or related field with laboratory experience.
• Hands-on molecular biology and recombinant protein workflows (cloning, mutagenesis, expression, purification, analysis).
• Experience with computational tools for sequence analysis, structure visualization or prediction, data analysis, or experimental design.

Responsibilities

• Execute protein engineering experiments including cloning, mutagenesis, expression, purification, and screening.
• Generate engineered protein variants to optimize activity, stability, or expression.
• Operate in high-throughput design-build-test-learn workflows and improve screening and data tracking processes.
• Use AI-enabled tools for sequence analysis, structure prediction, data visualization, and experimental planning.
• Register sequences and constructs in Benchling and maintain data organization across projects.
• Analyze biochemical and biophysical data, summarize findings, and propose next experiments with team scientists.
• Characterize proteins using SDS-PAGE, ELISA, HPLC, LC-MS, binding or activity assays.
• Collaborate across protein engineering, molecular biology, analytical sciences, automation, and bioinformatics.
• Prepare technical summaries, protocols, and data packages for reviews and development decisions.
• Maintain safety, rigor, reproducibility, data quality, and lab organization.
