Job summary

New York Power Authority seeks a Senior Protection & Controls Engineer to lead relay design, analysis, and compliance, serving as a technical authority in P&C across the organization. This role drives design standards, corrective actions, and advanced troubleshooting for critical grid assets.

Required are 8–10+ years in P&C, a NY PE license, and strong leadership. Expect engagement with NYISO/NPCC/IEEE, mentorship, and a path to high-impact grid modernization initiatives within NYPA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's preferred.
• 8–10+ years of P&C engineering experience with demonstrated leadership roles.
• New York State Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
• Experience reviewing and approving discipline-wide engineering deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection and control engineering functions including relay design, analysis, event review, and compliance oversight.
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert for P&C engineering across the organization and to senior leadership.
• Provide engineering design authority, including professional sealing of drawings, calculations, specifications, and documentation.
• Direct development and implementation of corrective action plans and design standards for P&C systems.
• Support protection system maintenance/testing programs and provide advanced troubleshooting guidance.
• Represent NYPA in external committees (NYISO, NPCC, IEEE) and provide expert testimony as required.
• Lead staff development, workload planning, and engineering best-practice implementation.
