Job summary

New York Power Authority (NYPA) is seeking a Senior Protection & Control Engineer to safeguard New York's power grid. You will design and enhance protection, control, and communication systems, improving reliability and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

You will analyze disturbances, develop forward-looking solutions, and lead relay coordination efforts, mentoring junior engineers and coordinating with vendors.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
8+ years in protective relaying for power systems.
New York State PE license or eligible within 12 months.
Experience as lead engineer in electric utilities preferred.
Strong project and vendor management skills.

Responsibilities

Provide lead engineer function for large or complex projects with specs and oversight.
Perform factory/field reviews, testing, and design reviews.
Coordinate with vendors during manufacturing; manage field inspections.
Lead protection system analyses, relay coordination, and equipment commissioning.
Mentor junior engineers and review teammates' work.
Represent NYPA at conferences and committees.
