Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to own AP milling and powder-handling processes for solid rocket motor production. You will lead on-site development, qualification, and continuous improvement of energetic-material processing with a focus on safety and compliance.

You will guide technicians and engineers on process control, documentation, and scale-up from development to production while applying Lean/Six Sigma methods to reduce cycle time, scrap, and variability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years in a manufacturing or process engineering role, deploying new production processes and equipment.
• Proven hands-on experience with powder or particulate material processing in a production environment (milling, grinding, jet milling, micronization, classification, sieving, blending, or spray drying).
• Demonstrated process ownership in a production environment: defined, controlled, and improved processes at scale; change-control documentation.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Process Owner for AP milling and powder-handling operations.
• Lead hands-on troubleshooting on the production floor to resolve complex issues, stabilize, and improve processes.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce Manufacturing Process Specifications (MPS), SOPs, and Work Instructions.
• Define and maintain Critical Process Parameters for AP milling (particle size, moisture, bulk density, contamination, flowability).
• Own process change control: initiate, justify, and implement changes via ECN; perform risk assessments (FMEA, HAZOP); plan/execute validation and requalification.
• Lead Lean/Six Sigma continuous improvement for new propellant formulations and motor programs; scale-up from development to production.
• Specify and optimize milling equipment and operating parameters (mill type, feed rates, speeds, classifier settings, media, temperature).
• Design, develop, and validate new manufacturing processes/equipment to meet specs, safety standards, and production rate.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to manufacturing engineers and technicians in process control and problem solving.
