Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Senior Engineer, Propulsion Systems to lead the definition, integration, and execution of propulsion systems for hypersonic vehicles, with ownership from concept through flight demonstration and production.

This hybrid role (2 days remote) based in Berthoud, Colorado, offers a fast-paced, hardware-centric environment. You will mentor engineers and shape propulsion architectures across cross-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of propulsion systems engineering or propulsion-focused vehicle development.
• Experience supporting hypersonic, missile, or high‑performance aerospace vehicles.
• Understanding of propulsion system architecture and integration; vehicle-level performance impact.
• Experience in a systems engineering environment across disciplines.
• Proficiency with CAD and drafting; GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Hands-on experience with fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze fluid and mechanical vehicle components including tanks and propellant systems.
• Support rapid development cycles with testing, data analysis, and hands-on hardware work.
• Lead propulsion subsystem architecture and requirements for hypersonic vehicles.
• Own propulsion trades, margins, and integration decisions across the system.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, analysis, and test teams to reduce variation and issues.
• Develop verification plans and compliance evidence for propulsion systems.
