Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to own clean sheet propulsion hardware from concept to production. You will design fluid and mechanical engine components, validate hardware, and mentor team members while coordinating with interfacing groups.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in engineering, 4+ years of experience, and strong CAD/FEA skills. Expect a fast-paced, ownership-driven environment with rigorous testing and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 4+ years of relevant mechanical design experience.
• Electromechanical and pneumatic actuator design experience.
• Experience testing high-pressure fluid systems.
• Proficiency with CAD and drafting.
• GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Ability to lead large projects and own tasks.
• Adaptable in fast-paced environment with customer-driven priorities.

Responsibilities

• Clean sheet design of fluid & mechanical engine components including gimbals, actuators, valves, and fluid systems.
• Design modifications of existing components to improve performance, manufacturability or resolve limitations.
• Collaborate with engineers on design of components, system sizing, testing, and development.
• Derive requirements from top level engine and test objectives.
• Write, review, and update work instructions for assembly and tests.
• Assemble and test first article prototypes.
• Work with interfacing teams to integrate designs into the engine system.
• Support validation and recursive design during engine development.
