Job summary

Nationwide seeks an experienced commercial insurance underwriter to lead and manage underwriting for specialized programs. You will analyze complex risks, determine coverage terms, and coordinate with reinsurers to implement program-specific tools and guidelines.

The role requires extensive E&S underwriting knowledge, strong financial analysis skills, and the ability to mentor junior staff. Travel to client and program manager offices may be required as part of program rollout.

Qualifications

• Eight or more years’ experience as a commercial insurance underwriter (primarily E&S).
• Strong knowledge of commercial insurance underwriting policies and practices.
• Ability to analyze and interpret financial documents and market conditions.
• Willingness to travel to client sites and program manager offices as needed.
• Graduate degree preferred to support advanced underwriting strategies.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end underwriting for assigned programs, including development of guidelines and forms.
• Review complex risks and decide to accept, decline or modify terms.
• Engage with reinsurers and oversee reinsurance facilities per department guidelines.
• Own audit processes for programs: planning, execution, findings, remediation, follow-up.
• Collaborate with multiple partners (claims, actuarial, compliance, finance) to implement program initiatives.
• Travel to program offices for marketing and implementation of new programs.
