Job summary

The City of New York, Comptroller’s Office, Bureau of Law & Adjustment is seeking a Claim Specialist to supervise daily work, coordinate dispositions, and guide staff toward accurate settlements of claims. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Two years of full-time experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss.
• Four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent with four years of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily work of claim specialists and review claims for completeness.
• Guide staff performance, assign tasks, complete evaluations, and maintain diary reviews.
• Supervise and/or assist in investigations of high-profile claims, preparing and/or reviewing spreadsheets or reports as needed.
• Communicate effectively with claimants, agencies, attorneys, claimants’ representatives, and insurers to settle claims.
• Interact with Law Department and Comptroller's staff to approve/disapprove recommendations.
• Use available databases to obtain information relevant to claim investigations.
• Provide regular activity reports to the Assistant Chief Division Chief.
• Perform related assignments and special projects as required.
