Job summary

The New York City Comptroller's Office seeks a Claim Specialist Supervisor to lead the Property Damage Division, oversee the disposition of claims, and coordinate investigations. The role involves collaboration with the Law Department, agencies, and insurance carriers to achieve fair settlements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Two years of full-time experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss if using an associate degree.
• Four years of full-time experience investigating and/or settling claims for personal injury or property damage or loss if using a high school diploma.
• Satisfactory combination of education and/or experience as described above.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the daily work of claim specialists and review claims for completeness and proper disposition.
• Guide and monitor staff performance, assign tasks, and maintain regular diary reviews.
• Supervise and assist in high-profile claims involving multiple claimants and prepare reports or memoranda as needed.
• Communicate professionally with claimants, agencies, attorneys, and insurers to investigate and settle claims.
• Act as liaison between the Comptroller's Office, Law Department, and other agencies for claim-related matters.
• Use available databases to obtain information relevant to investigations.
• Provide the Assistant Chief Division Chief with regular activity reports.
• Perform related assignments and special projects as required.
