Job summary

The New York City Comptroller's Office, Bureau of Law & Adjustment, seeks a Claim Specialist to conduct full investigations of non-tort claims against the City of New York, analyze liability, and draft settlement recommendations.

Under the Law Division Chief, you will review requests, coordinate with agencies, and maintain claims files while communicating with departments and pro se claimants. Residency is preferred; the city supports professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Two years of full-time experience investigating or settling claims (if using an associate degree)
• Four-year high school diploma with four years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

• Complete a full investigation of non-tort claims against the City of New York.
• Analyze liability and damages and prepare an objective evaluation of the claim.
• Review settlement requests and provide sound recommendations on settlement authority.
