Job summary

The City of New York's Comptroller's Office, Bureau of Law & Adjustment, is seeking an Administrative Claim Examiner (1004E) to lead the Property Damage Division. Responsibilities include directing daily operations, supervising staff, reviewing settlement files, and approving recommendations with Law Department input.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree and four years’ liability-claims experience, including 18 months in a managerial role.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of full-time experience investigating and settling liability claims, 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing the investigation and settlement of liability claims or related work.
• Education and/or experience equivalent to the above; however, all candidates must have the 18 months of experience in an administrative, managerial, executive or supervisory capacity as described in the first item.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the Division Chief in managing and directing all functions of the Property Damage Division, including overseeing day-to-day operations;
• Managing and supervising the Property Damage Division staff to ensure work meets professional standards and Bureau procedures;
• Providing direction and monitoring productivity to ensure efficient resolution of claims;
• Reviewing files submitted by staff for settlement or disallowance with supporting documentation;
• Delegating within independent authority and with discretion monetary settlement authority;
• Interacting to approve/disapprove recommendations made by the Law Department and other City Agencies;
• Preparing employee performance evaluations and reporting incidents of misconduct or performance issues;
• Recommending and implementing new procedures for process efficiency;
• Acting as the point of contact for Property Damage claims and policies;
• Communicating with staff, elected officials, agency personnel, attorneys, the public, and stakeholders;
