Job summary

Barkan Management Company, Inc. in Newton, MA, seeks a Senior Property Accountant to lead end-to-end accounting for a portfolio of community association and multi-family properties, while mentoring 2–3 remote staff accountants and serving as a day-to-day resource.

You will produce monthly financial workbooks with schedules, reconcile balance sheets, post journal entries, monitor cash flow, and deliver timely final financials to executives and managers, in a confidential, collaborative, hybrid

Qualifications

• 4+ years of property accounting experience, with a strong foundation in community association and/or multi-family accounting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of properties end to end, including monthly close, balance sheet reconciliation, financial statement preparation, and variance analysis.
• Prior experience mentoring, training, or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff preferred; readiness to step into that role is required.
• Proficiency in CINC and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with Yardi or similar multi-family accounting platforms a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of community association and multi-family properties, producing accurate monthly financial workbooks with full supporting schedules.
• Analyze and reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly for assigned properties.
• Prepare and post journal entries including accruals, reclasses, and adjustments.
• Send preliminary financial statements to account executives and property managers, incorporate feedback, and issue final financials in accordance with contractual due dates.
• Monitor cash flow and ensure timely processing of payments across assigned properties.
• Communicate proactively with account executives, property managers, and team leads on financial matters, variances, and reporting deliverables.
• Maintain client financial information on a strictly confidential basis.
