Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager, Water Resources, to lead the planning and delivery of complex water, wastewater, flood risk, drainage and environmental infrastructure projects. This role will suit a technically capable and commercially aware professional who can manage projects from feasibility and concept development through to design, approvals, construction and close-out. You will work with clients, consultants, contractors, regulators and internal specialists to deliver high-quality outcomes safely, efficiently and in line with agreed objectives.

Responsibilities will include defining project scope, programmes, budgets, resourcing and procurement strategies; coordinating multidisciplinary design teams; managing risks, issues, change control and project reporting; and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, technical standards, environmental requirements and health and safety obligations. You will lead client and stakeholder engagement, prepare and review business cases and technical documentation, support consenting and approval processes, and oversee contract administration and commercial performance. The role will also involve mentoring project managers and technical staff, contributing to business development, preparing bids and proposals, and identifying opportunities to improve delivery methods and service quality.

Applicants should have substantial experience managing water resources or related civil infrastructure projects, ideally within a consultancy, engineering, contractor or public-sector environment. A degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering, water management, environmental engineering or a related discipline is expected, together with strong knowledge of project management principles, relevant contract forms and industry standards. Professional accreditation or chartered status is desirable. You will need excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills, sound financial and commercial judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex delivery environment. Experience with flood risk management, hydraulic modelling, drainage, water supply, wastewater or natural flood management projects would be advantageous. This position offers the opportunity to influence major infrastructure programmes and make a meaningful contribution to resilient, sustainable water management.
