Job description

A well-established engineering and infrastructure consulting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex municipal infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overall project delivery, including client management, technical oversight, financial performance, scheduling, resource coordination, and team leadership.

The position is suited to an experienced professional who can combine strong engineering knowledge with project management, client development, and team leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of assigned engineering projects and programs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a senior point of contact throughout project delivery.
  • Identify opportunities with existing and prospective clients and work with business development teams to support new project opportunities.
  • Participate in contract and commercial discussions, including defining project scope, fees, budgets, deliverables, and contractual responsibilities.
  • Develop project execution strategies, work plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements.
  • Assemble and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams, working with internal departments and external partners as necessary.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to technical, production, and support personnel working on assigned projects.
  • Monitor project scope, schedule, budget, resources, and overall financial performance.
  • Identify potential risks, cost or schedule issues, and other factors that could affect successful project delivery, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensure engineering work meets established quality standards and contractual requirements.
  • Review technical deliverables and promote consistency, accuracy, and technical excellence across projects.
  • Provide regular project status updates to senior management and clients, including progress against key milestones and financial performance.
  • Lead or participate in client meetings, presentations, workshops, and other project-related discussions.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and project staff, including providing feedback, conducting performance reviews, and identifying professional development opportunities.
  • Provide technical or production support when required.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure appropriate health and safety considerations are incorporated into project planning and execution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable company policies, client requirements, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • At least 8 years of relevant engineering and project management experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience delivering municipal infrastructure projects, particularly in water, wastewater, stormwater, or related civil infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, budgets, schedules, teams, and client expectations.
  • Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical and commercial information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 10 or more years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience managing large or complex infrastructure programs.
  • Experience with business development, proposal preparation, client relationship management, or securing new work.
  • Established relationships with municipal, public-sector, or infrastructure clients.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience with water, wastewater, stormwater, collection systems, or related infrastructure programs.
