Job description

We are seeking a Water & Wastewater Engineer to support the planning, design, delivery and improvement of water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This role will contribute to projects across treatment, pumping, pipelines, reservoirs, drainage and network systems, working with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, compliant and cost-effective engineering solutions. You will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and concept development through to detailed design, construction support and commissioning.

Key responsibilities will include preparing technical reports, calculations, specifications, drawings and schedules; assessing hydraulic performance and system capacity; developing design solutions for water and wastewater assets; reviewing contractor and supplier submissions; and supporting site investigations, construction activities and technical inspections. You will help ensure that designs meet relevant legislation, industry standards, health and safety requirements and environmental objectives. The role will also involve liaising with clients, contractors, regulators and internal stakeholders, attending project meetings, managing technical risks and contributing to programme and cost control. Where appropriate, you may also support asset management, condition assessments, operational improvements and the development of bids or business cases.

Applicants should have a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, environmental, water engineering or a related discipline, along with relevant experience in water and/or wastewater projects. Strong knowledge of hydraulic principles, water industry standards, design software and technical documentation is desirable. Experience with tools such as hydraulic modelling packages, AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar platforms would be advantageous. You should be able to interpret technical data, solve complex engineering problems and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences. A structured approach, commercial awareness, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities are essential. Professional registration, or active progress towards professional accreditation, would be welcomed.
