Job summary

The City of Olathe is seeking an experienced Project Inspection Supervisor to lead inspection activities for public infrastructure projects, including streets, storm and sanitary sewers, water mains, and related improvements.

The role oversees staff, coordinates contract inspectors, and ensures compliance with City specifications, safety requirements and standards. Strong leadership, field inspection experience, and plan-reading skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Seven years of progressively responsible experience in construction inspection for civil engineering projects.
• Must be able to read and interpret engineering plans, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Extensive knowledge of field testing equipment and documentation software.
• APWA CPII preferred; IMSA certifications in Work Zone Safety, Erosion and Sediment Control, and Nuclear Density Gauge are required.

Responsibilities

• Plans, directs, and coordinates technical inspection of streets, sewers, water mains and other city infrastructure.
• Coordinates and supervises outsourced project inspection staff to ensure safety and adherence to standards.
• Mentors and trains team members; evaluates performance and provides guidance on complex tasks.
• Oversees project inspections and communications; serves as primary point of contact for team coordination.
• Supports project management, budget oversights, and operations; acts as shift supervisor during emergency snow operations.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent; college-level coursework in engineering/construction management preferred
