Job summary

The City of Leawood is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector for its Public Works Department. You will inspect public infrastructure projects, verify ADA compliance, document daily progress, and coordinate materials testing on-site in Leawood, Kansas.

Applicants should have 6+ years in construction/inspection, a related associate degree or equivalent experience, and relevant certifications. This role emphasizes field work, accuracy, and collaboration with engineers and property owners.

Qualifications

• Must have 6+ years of construction industry and inspection/field experience.
• Associate’s degree in construction management or related field plus 4+ years of related experience is acceptable.
• Certifications and trainings listed include BMPs, erosion control, core inspection courses, ACI testing, IMSA Work Zone, NHI pipe installation and QA.

Responsibilities

• Inspect and maintain daily records of construction activities for public infrastructure projects.
• Inspect sidewalks, ramps, and driveways to verify ADA compliance and dimensional accuracy.
• Verify right-of-way permits and ensure proper restoration and utility location.
• Prepare daily inspection reports, coordinate materials testing and measure quantities.
• Conduct final inspections of Public Improvement and Infrastructure projects before bond expiration.
• Oversee erosion control and traffic control device installation and maintenance.
• Assist engineers and right-of-way staff with obtaining rights-of-way and easements.
• Assist with snow removal and emergency operations as needed.
