Job description

As a Senior Project Engineering Manager at D&Z, you will play a critical leadership role guiding the engineering discipline within major projects. Your expert management will ensure seamless coordination among engineering and design leads, steering them towards the successful and timely delivery of all engineering components. You hold accountability for the comprehensive oversight of engineering deliverables, encompassing adherence to schedule, budget management, and rigorous document control processes.

Your leadership fosters effective multidisciplinary communication, ensuring alignment across diverse engineering functions to support project objectives. By managing cost, schedule, and quality controls, you directly influence project performance and client satisfaction, while cultivating a collaborative environment that motivates teams to excel and innovate. This pivotal role demands strategic vision and operational excellence to drive engineering success that meets rigorous industry standards and client expectations.

As the Senior Project Engineering Manager, here is the work you'll do:
  • Oversee and independently manage medium to large-scale engineering projects, ensuring comprehensive execution of engineering efforts including specifications, documentation, and compliance with permitting requirements. You will coordinate and monitor supplier and contractor performance, providing technical guidance to resolve complex challenges and optimize project outcomes.
  • Develop, maintain and monitor detailed project schedules, assuring that all technical, equipment, and documentation milestones are achievable and align with contractual obligations. Regularly evaluate the impact of prime contract liquidated damages on engineering schedules to mitigate risks.
  • Coordinate construction interface activities by integrating engineering data with build processes, supporting Request for Information (RFI), Design Change Request (DCR), and Field Change Request (FCR) workflows. Collaborate closely with field engineering teams to ensure on-site support aligns with project needs and specifications.
  • Lead department and cross-organizational initiatives to develop, recommend, and enforce engineering policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance standards. Engage with clients to clarify specifications, resolve technical issues, and contribute to proposal development including risk assessments and project assumptions.
  • Plan and assign work schedules for engineering teams, providing leadership, mentorship, and technical oversight. Monitor project progress rigorously, initiating corrective actions to ensure goals, quality benchmarks, and timelines are consistently met.
  • Define the scope of engineering services and deliverables in alignment with Request for Quote/Proposal (RFQ/RFP) requirements. Clarify Delegation of Responsibility (DOR) and points of interface, assist in selecting technology providers, and specify key deliverables such as General Arrangements, site layouts, and electrical one-line diagrams. Contribute to procurement and subcontracting strategies based on comprehensive project design data including site conditions and environmental factors.
This role is for you if you have these skills:
  • Proven expertise in managing complex engineering projects from conception through completion, including cost estimation, budgeting, and schedule control with a keen ability to lead diverse engineering teams effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills enabling successful oversight of multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
  • A broad and deep technical foundation across various engineering disciplines, allowing you to interpret and communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, complemented by experience with AutoCAD and Bluebeam; familiarity with Revit software is an advantage, enhancing project documentation and visualization capabilities.
And if you have these qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required, demonstrating the foundational knowledge essential for this leadership role.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university is acceptable and valued, indicative of advanced expertise and commitment to the profession.
  • Eligibility for licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) in compliance with the relevant State Board requirements is mandatory, ensuring recognized professional standards and competence.
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in engineering, including a minimum of 5 years in project engineering or project management roles, with preference given to those with a background in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
