Job summary

RK&K in North Carolina seeks an archaeological principal investigator qualified as SOI to lead Southeast projects, supervise field crews, and ensure compliance with Section 106, NHPA, and NEPA across complex projects. This permanent role is based in NC with potential travel out of state.

You will collaborate with engineers, historians, and planners, develop proposals, review reports, mentor staff, and contribute to business development and client outreach while maintaining high standards of

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
• 8–15 years of archaeological experience in the Southeast.
• 5+ years of archaeological field project management experience.
• SOI-qualified in archaeology.
• RPA certification.
• Experience with precontact and historic periods.
• Section 106 consultation expertise.
• Understanding NEPA and Section 4(f).
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Strong research, writing, communication, and attention to detail.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Experience on North Carolina DOT projects.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Complete all phases of archaeological investigations in the Southeast.
• Proposal development.
• Supervise field staff.
• Oversee artifact analysis and QA/QC of reports.
• Advise on Section 106 and NHPA requirements.
• Draft Section 106 agreement documents.
• Contribute to NEPA documents and 4(f) evaluations.
• Assist with business development and client outreach.
