Job summary

RK&K is seeking a Secretary of the Interior (SOI)-qualified archaeological principal investigator for the Southeast region. The permanent, full-time role is based in North Carolina, with travel out of state possible.

You will lead investigations, supervise field staff, and advise on Section 106, NEPA, and related regulations. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s in Archaeology/Anthropology, 8–15 years of Southeast experience, SOI and RPA credentials, and strong writing and communication

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
• Eight to fifteen years of archaeological experience in the Southeast.
• Five+ years of archaeological project management experience.
• SOI-qualified in archaeology.
• RPA certification.
• Experience with precontact and historic period archaeology.
• Expertise with Section 106 consultation.
• Understanding NEPA and Section 4(f).
• Ability to work independently and with a diverse team.
• Strong research, technical writing, and communication skills.
• Attention to detail in writing and reviews.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Experience on North Carolina DOT projects.
• Able to pass a background check.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Complete all phases of archaeological investigations throughout the Southeast.
• Develop proposals.
• Supervise field staff.
• Oversee artifact analysis and QA/QC of technical reports.
• Advise on Section 106 NHPA and state preservation requirements.
• Draft Section 106 agreement documents.
• Contribute to NEPA documents and 4(f) evaluations.
• Support business development and client outreach.
