Job summary

RK&K is seeking an SOI-qualified archaeological principal investigator for a permanent, full-time role based in one of our South Carolina or Georgia offices. The PI will lead field investigations, supervise crews, and manage reporting across the Southeast.

Ideal candidates have a Master's in Archaeology or Anthropology, 8–15 years of Southeastern experience, and RPA certification, with strong knowledge of Section 106, NEPA, and 4(f) considerations.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
• 8–15 years of archaeological experience in the Southeast.
• 5+ years of archaeological field project management experience.
• SOI-qualification in archaeology.
• RPA certification.
• Experience with precontact and historic period archaeology.
• Expertise with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
• Understanding of NEPA and Section 4(f) of the USDOT Act.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Strong research, writing, and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead all phases of archaeological investigations throughout the Southeast.
• Oversee proposal development and field staff supervision.
• Oversee artifact analysis and QA/QC of technical reports.
• Advise engineers, planners, and clients on regulatory requirements.
• Draft Section 106 agreement documents and contribute to NEPA work.
• Support business development and client outreach.
