Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Experienced Professional, Project Accounting in the United States. The role focuses on providing accounting support to project managers, developing budgets and WBS, margin analysis, and funding in Oracle for large projects.

You will collaborate with Billing and Project Managers on pre-billing reviews, costing, and invoicing while maintaining high standards of financial stewardship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or closely-related discipline (or demonstrated proven equivalent experience).
• 3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience in accounting, project contracts and change management documents.
• Working knowledge of project accounting principles, practices, and methods and their application to project work-related issues.
• Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound independent judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions with financial implications to the company.
• Ability to initiate and coordinate efforts with various stakeholders around contract and project requirements.
• Effective communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an accounting and non-accounting audience.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and accounting software, including MS Excel, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and related tools.

Responsibilities

• For assigned project(s), manage and analyze the collection, recording, and allocating of project costs and revenue, ensuring accurate project P&L and communicating performance to management.
• Lifecycle project accounting from creating project accounts in Oracle, tracking budgets, validating invoicing, close-out, and reconciling payables/receivables.
• Perform detailed accounting tasks related to managing project contract, billing events and billing transaction exceptions for medium-sized/moderate complex projects.
• Collaborate with Project Manager to establish and update project budgets and provide recommendations on modifications.
• Generate project financial reports and escalate items needing review or corrective action.
• Authorize access to project accounts and transfers in compliance with accounting practices.
• Maintain quality control standards for project financial records using Oracle and spreadsheets.
• Investigate variances and prepare variance reports for management.
• Verify contract and change order characteristics for projects of moderate complexity.
• Monitor indicators for problem projects and inform managers of concerns.
• Ensure draft invoices align with contract requirements and obtain necessary approvals.
• Coordinate with Contract Administrators on subconsultant invoices and PO management.
• Record unpaid billings and follow up on delinquent accounts receivable.
