Job summary

LeoForce is seeking a Senior Project Accountant in Chicago to own the financial health of large construction projects from inception through closeout. You will partner with Project Managers and leadership to manage budgets, billing, and cost controls, ensuring profitability across the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in construction accounting, strong GAAP knowledge, and expert Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of construction project accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition.
• Experience with construction ERP platforms such as Sage Intacct, Foundation, Procore, Vista, CMiC.
• Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and lookups.

Responsibilities

• Manage project setup, budgets, cost codes, contract values, change orders, and billing in construction accounting systems.
• Prepare owner billings, AIA applications, schedules of values, retainage, and supporting docs.
• Monitor costs, commitments, subcontractor activity, and project profitability.
• Perform monthly reconciliations, WIP reporting, and month-end close activities.
• Collaborate with Project Managers to review costs, forecast performance, and identify risks.
• Track subcontractor compliance, lien waivers, insurance certificates, and payroll.
• Support cash flow through billing, collections, and payments.
• Prepare financial reporting, variance analyses, and ad hoc reports for teams and leadership.
• Assist with project closeout, audits, process improvements, and mentoring staff.

Responsibilities

• Manage project setup, budgets, cost codes, contract values, change orders, and billing within construction accounting systems.
• Prepare and submit owner billings, including AIA payment applications, schedules of values, retainage, stored materials, and supporting documentation.
• Monitor project costs, commitments, subcontractor activity, and job profitability throughout the project lifecycle.
• Perform monthly project reconciliations, WIP reporting, revenue recognition support, and month-end close activities.
• Partner with Project Managers to review job costs, forecast project performance, analyze margins, and identify financial risks.
• Track subcontractor compliance, including lien waivers, insurance certificates, certified payroll, bonds, and required documentation.
• Support cash flow management through billing, collections, subcontractor payments, and retention tracking.
• Prepare financial reporting, variance analyses, and ad hoc reports for project teams and executive leadership.
• Assist with project closeout, internal and external audits, process improvements, and mentoring junior accounting staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5+ years of construction project accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, job costing, contract billing, and revenue recognition.
• Experience with construction ERP platforms such as Sage Intacct, Foundation, Procore, Vista, CMiC, or similar.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and financial analysis.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Finance and Operations.
