Aston Carter seeks a Senior Project Accountant to oversee project‑based financial activities, ensuring accurate billing, reporting, and GAAP compliance. You will work with project managers, clients, contractors, and agencies to provide clear financial guidance and training.

Based in Savannah, GA, this permanent role involves invoicing, onboarding projects, monthly statements, revenue recognition, and close processes, within a collaborative team and modern tech stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Superior understanding of accounting fundamentals, including general ledger, project costing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and payroll.
• Demonstrated experience preparing project invoices and managing monthly billing cycles.
• Experience preparing financial statements and summarizing financial results for leadership and non-financial audiences.
• Hands-on experience with project accounting, payroll, and CRM software.
• Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
• Understanding of KPIs within the engineering industry and how to calculate them.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical project managers, clients, public agencies, and contractors.
• Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills.
• Sound decision‑making skills regarding discrepancies and other errors, with the ability to analyze processes and pursue improvement.
• Strong work ethic, self‑motivation, and the ability to multi‑task and manage time, workload, and stress effectively.
• High individual moral and ethical standards.
• Experience with journal entries, balance sheet preparation, general ledger accounting, reconciliation, month‑end close, and day‑to‑day accounting.
• Experience in construction or project‑based billing and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare invoices and monthly project billing on time and accurately recorded.
• Onboard new projects from an accounting perspective, including reviewing contracts and amendments.
• Prepare financial statements and project summaries for leadership.
• Perform ongoing financial analysis and revenue recognition for assigned projects.
• Manage cash flow and accounts receivable, coordinating collections and deposits.
• Maintain accurate project, billing, and client information in accounting and CRM systems.
• Coordinate timesheet submissions and payroll accounting tasks.
• Train and support project managers on billing and accounting processes.
• Collaborate with project managers to align financial execution with project goals.
• Prepare general ledger entries and review high volumes of transactions for accuracy.
• Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting for projects and the office.
• Meet multiple critical monthly deadlines.
• Research and assist with special financial projects with analysis and recommendations.
• Apply knowledge of U.S. GAAP and project accounting principles.
